5G for industrial robots

Robots that communicate over 4G run slowly. This means that they cannot perform complex tasks. On the other hand, robots that communicate with 5G technology behave smoothly, quickly and perfectly synchronized, allowing them to perform complex tasks.

This is made possible by the use of Ultra Reliable and Low Latency Communication (URLLC) technology building blocks.

Standardization stakeholders have defined the following requirements for a robot to operate with wireless communications:

the packet transmission time between the robot and the base station must be less than 1 millisecond;
the probability of packet loss of 1/100000.
These figures are currently achieved with wired Ethernet technology.

It is clear that 5G is a perfect technology to address the robotics industry due to its speed, low latency and reliability.

5G technology coupled with big data and cloud computing are the pillars of a new stage in the digital industrial revolution.
